European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attended India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, marking a historic moment in India–European Union relations. The occasion was significant as it marked the first time that two top European leaders jointly graced India’s Republic Day, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between New Delhi and Brussels.

Speaking on the sidelines of the celebrations on Monday, von der Leyen highlighted India’s rising global role, stating that a successful and strong India contributes to a more stable, prosperous, and secure world. She praised India’s democratic values, economic growth, and leadership on global issues, noting that India’s progress has far-reaching positive implications beyond its borders.
