Jamui, Bihar, September 22, 2026: The investigation into the alleged molestation of a Class 10 girl in Bihar’s Jamui district took a dramatic turn after the main accused, Nandan Yadav, was shot in the leg during a police encounter on Tuesday. He was subsequently taken to Jamui Sadar Hospital for treatment and arrested, according to police reports.

The case came to light after a video allegedly showing the harassment of the minor girl and the assault of her male classmate circulated widely on social media. According to reports, the two Class 10 students were returning from coaching classes when they were allegedly stopped by a group of men. The girl was allegedly subjected to inappropriate behaviour, while her male companion was also assaulted.

Police Say Accused Opened Fire

Police officials said the encounter took place during an operation to arrest Yadav. According to reports, police claimed that Yadav allegedly opened fire at the police team while attempting to escape. The police retaliated, during which he sustained a gunshot injury to his leg.

Yadav was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and is now in police custody. Another accused, identified in reports as Hare Ram Yadav, was also arrested during the operation and reportedly suffered injuries.

Seven Suspects Identified

Police have reportedly identified around seven suspects in connection with the alleged incident with the help of the viral video and other evidence. Several arrests had already been made before the encounter, while police teams continued efforts to locate the remaining suspects.

An Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Deepti Monali has been constituted to investigate the case and establish the role of each accused.

The case has reportedly been registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Viral Video Under Investigation

The circulation of the video has become another important part of the investigation. Authorities have reportedly urged people not to share or circulate footage involving the minor victims, as such material can reveal their identities.

Police are examining the circumstances in which the video was recorded and subsequently circulated online. Investigators are also working to establish the complete sequence of events surrounding the alleged assault.
