Guwahati (Assam): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday began a four-kilometre roadshow from Guwahati airport to Azara, drawing large crowds and creating a festive atmosphere across the Assam capital. Thousands of supporters lined both sides of the road, waving flags and showering flowers as the Prime Minister’s convoy passed through key stretches of the city.
The roadshow marks the Prime Minister’s arrival in Assam as part of his visit to the northeastern region, during which he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of several development and infrastructure projects. Security arrangements were heightened along the route, with personnel deployed at strategic points to ensure smooth movement and crowd management.
Residents from Guwahati and nearby areas gathered early in the day to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. Many chanted slogans and held banners welcoming him, reflecting strong public enthusiasm. The roadshow route, connecting the airport to Azara, was decorated with party flags, cultural motifs, and posters highlighting development initiatives.
Officials said the Prime Minister’s visit is significant for Assam, as it underlines the Centre’s continued focus on the development of the Northeast, including improved connectivity, urban infrastructure, and economic growth. The roadshow is also being seen as politically important ahead of upcoming electoral activities in the region.
Later in the day, PM Modi is expected to address public programmes and interact with beneficiaries of various government schemes. Live updates from his Assam visit are expected as he proceeds with a packed schedule focused on development, governance, and outreach.
