FAKE FAITH, BIG FRAUD: ‘GODMAN’ ASHOK KHARAT EXPOSED

₹100 Rituals to ₹1 Lakh Cons; 150 Foreign Trips Under Probe

The arrest of self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, a retired Merchant Navy officer who called himself “Captain,” has uncovered a disturbing mix of alleged fraud, exploitation, and deception carried out under the cover of spirituality.

Investigators say what began as small rituals costing ₹100 gradually turned into high-value “spiritual services” charging up to ₹1 lakh. Kharat allegedly built a network of followers by exploiting fear, blind faith, and personal vulnerabilities.

A major focus of the investigation is Kharat’s lavish lifestyle, which sharply contrasts with the simple, spiritual persona he projected. Authorities have flagged his nearly 150 foreign trips, raising serious concerns about his sources of income.

The probe intensified after photos from a recent South Korea vacation went viral. In the images, Kharat appears in a modern, stylish look—far removed from his godman image—triggering public scrutiny and suspicion.

Officials are now examining whether these trips were funded through proceeds of alleged illegal activities.

According to preliminary findings, Kharat used dramatic and misleading methods to convince followers of his “powers.” These reportedly included:

Displaying fake snakes to create fear

Distributing so-called “blessed” seeds promising miracles

Using tiger skin and occult symbols to project authority

Claiming to perform rare ‘aghori’ rituals

Victims were allegedly made to believe that these rituals could solve personal, financial, or health problems—often at a heavy cost.

The case has taken a darker turn with investigators probing serious allegations such as:

Extortion and financial fraud

Blackmail and coercion

Sexual exploitation under the guise of rituals

Authorities believe many victims may have been manipulated through fear and psychological pressure.

Money Trail and Wider Network

Tracking the money trail is now a key priority. Agencies are examining financial records, transactions, and possible international links to determine how Kharat funded his lifestyle.

There are also indications that others may have assisted him, and the probe is expanding to uncover any wider network involved.

The Ashok Kharat case serves as a stark reminder of how blind faith can be misused for personal gain. With multiple serious allegations and a growing list of victims, the investigation is expected to reveal further details in the coming days.
